Monday is
President’s Day, a legal holiday here in the States. On that day we commemorate
the birthdays of both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It is On This Day
in 1731 that George Washington was born in Virginia .
He was born when
the Julian Calendar – or the Old Calendar – was used. When the British,
including the colonies, switched over to the Gregorian calendar, Washington’s
birthday was now changed to 22 February 1732. Today when you look at a
calendar, George Washington’s birthday is placed on the 22nd.
On
This Day is a prompt I started this month to further explore historical events.
