On This Day: Eckman among those applying for tavern license

James S Eckman was one of four people who applied for a tavern license On This Day in 1880. Eckman had been refused the previous year due to a remonstrance against it. His case was heard and then continued until the third Monday in June. The location of the tavern was not provided.

Martin Metzroth was denied his application. His hotel was at Walnut and Mulberry Streets in the City. Jacob Ruth was denied as well. Ruth was from Brecknock Township

Finally, Gertrude Ruppercht applied for a tavern license for a hotel at Fourth and Walnut Streets in Columbia. Ruppercht’s license was granted.
