The Bruder boys were ice skating On This Day in 1880 when
the ice broke and the younger boy drowned. John, age 9, fell through and
drowned. His body had not yet been recovered by the time the paper went to
print.
John had been skating with his 12 year old brother
Christian. The older boy tried to save his brother and was almost drowned
himself. The two boys, sons of J. Bruder of East King Street , had been skating on the
Conestoga River
just below the Woodward
Hill Cemetery .
