On This Day: Sowers finds prison profitable

Lancaster County Commissioners reported On This Day in 1882 that they received a check from Eastern Penitentiary. The check was for $19.89 and was the amount that inmate Lewis Sowers made while in prison, over what it costs to incarcerate him. Sowers, who is from Lancaster County, was in prison for killing his wife the year before.
