On This Day: Lancaster man faces US grand jury

A Lancaster County man faced the United States grand jury for defrauding the US revenue. Levi Weise, of Hahnstown, was charged with refilling cigar boxes after they had been previously used, thus defrauding the government revenue.

Two years ago Detective C. M. Horton arrested Weise after finding a single refilled cigar box on his premises. Horton did not appear at the hearing and the charges were ignored. His verdict was reported On This Day in 1880.
