Nimrod Strickland was born in 1807 in Pennsylvania . He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows.

He married Margaret McCullough in 1837. They had several
children: Nimrod, Rosie G., Robert E. M., and Nimrod. The 1870 Census did
actually list 26 year old Nimrod and one year old Nimrod both as “Nimrod Jr.”
The family also employed two domestic servants that year: Mary McCann and Anna
Miles. Phebe Lumis was listed as their domestic in the 1860 census.
He died of heart disease. He is buried at the Oaklands Cemetery
in West Chester, Chester
County .
His obituary reads:
Judge Nimrod Strickland died at his home in West Chester , on Saturday, aged 73 years. Under the
administration of Governor Wolfe, he was register of Chester County ,
holding the position for six years. He was made one of the associate judges of Chester County in 1856 and subsequently was
elected canal commissioner. He was warden of the Eastern Penitentiary for a
brief period and in 1858 became editor of the Pennsylvanian, a daily Democratic paper published in Philadelphia . In late
years he was a justice of the peace and prison inspector. He was a life long
Democrat and was much respected by all who knew him.
