On This Day: Kunkel arrests burglar

Constable George W. Kunkel arrested John Temple, a burglar, On This Day in 1880. Temple was charged with breaking in the residences of Mrs. Nancy Wilmer of Eden Township and John Johnson of Bart Township. Once inside, Temple robbed both.

The article in the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer (which was much to long to show here) goes on to say that Temple was “a stranger in the neighborhood.” Kunkel, who was of Eden Township, arrested Temple at the home of James Campbell in Georgetown.

Temple was described as being approximately 35 years old, 5’5” tall, dark complexion, well dressed and good looking.

Constable Kunkel brought Temple before Squire Bachman of Bart Township. Bachman committed him to jail to await court.
