Pierson George Still is my great grandfather. Specifically
he is my maternal grandfather’s father. Born 16 March 1886, he lived almost a
century. He was died 12 January 1977, just shy of his 91st birthday.
Funeral Card of Pierson George Still, my great grandfather. |
His funeral service was held at Albert F. Kuzo Funeral Home
in Kennett Square , Chester County. The Rev. John L. Ferguson,
Pastor of Unionville Presbyterian Church, officiated. He was buried at the Old Doe Run Presbyterian
Cemetery in East
Fallowfield with many other family members.
The winter of 1976-77 was one of our coldest here. I
remember hearing some of the older family members (I was just shy of eight when
he passed) talk about the frozen ground and wondering if they would even be
able to dig a hole for burial.
The Farmer’s Almanac shows the temperature in
nearby Coatesville the day of his funeral was just 21.9 degrees. There was a
reported three inches of snow on the ground as well. The wind speed that day
registered between eight and 11 MPH. Doe Run Presbyterian Cemetery is on a bit
of an unprotected hill and, even though I was but a child, I remember how
bitter cold it was that day.
