The neighbors of Israel Kieffer, On This Day in 1880,
supplied the family with food after learning their cupboards were bare. The
North Christian Street
neighbors learned of Kieffer’s destitute situation after one of the children
died of diphtheria.
The father was out of work and had been so for some time.
Three other children were also ill.
