A dispute over tobacco resulted in a legal case, according to the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer On This Day in 1880. James Collins, of Colerain Township , charged A. Reissmann, a tobacco packer in Lancaster City , with malicious mischief. Collins sold tobacco to Reissman, agreeing upon a price. Upon delivery however, Reissman would not pay for it, claiming it to be wet. He also would not return the tobacco until a court order was drawn up. Reissman boasted he could get the tobacco at a lesser than agreed upon price. Collins alleged that Reissman watered the tobacco himself and stated that he could prove this statement. On This Day is a prompt I started this month to further explore historical events. © Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman, 2015
