Jeremiah Brown died of heart disease on Wednesday, 5 May 1880. He was 63. He is buried in the Penn Hill Burial Ground. He was born 14 February 1817 in Lancaster County to Slater and Mary Kirk Brown. He married Margaretta Haines, with whom he had several children. They lived in Fulton Township , in Southern Lancaster County. His obituary reads: On Wednesday Jeremiah Brown, one of the most prominent and widely known residents of Fulton Township, died of heart disease, with which he had been afflicted for several years past. Mr. Brown was a representative of one of the oldest and most highly esteemed Quaker families in the state. At one time he held a heavy interest in the Peach Bottom slate quarries on both sides of the Susquehanna, besides being the owner of other valuable properties.
