Rugby was dedicated in Tennessee, reported the Lancaster Daily Intelligencer On This Day in 1880. The dedication actually took place the day prior, on the 5 th . Rugby , no not the sport, is a town. Actually it is a colony, an English colony.    The manager of the colony was Cyyrus Clark, who spoke at the dedication. Thomas Hughes, an author and social reformer, also spoke at the dedication. Hughes is credited with founding the colony. Today, Rugby remains an unincorporated community stretching within both Morgan and Scott counties in Tennessee . Mr. Hiram Slauch found remains up on Welsh Mountain . The remains are believed by many to be the human remains of an infant. Some however argue that point, claiming it must be an animal. The head and limbs were gone but the bowels were intact. An inquest is supposed to have been done, but as of This Day in 1881, the examination has not yet been conducted.   The Salisbury correspondent also reported a “dull” tobacco market, as well as other crop related news. There have been noticeable improvements in Clarksville . A thick forest stood there just a few day ago. Now a growing village, including a general store run by Daniel Clark, is in its place.   Mr. Sample White reportedly died Friday of consumption. White was from Gap and had been sick awhile. Just a side note: on a recent PBS special about tuberculosis (TB), people used to call it consumption around that time.   Mr. S. F. Wanner plans on moving west.
