It was On This Day in 1976 that the US Naval Academy opened
its door to women for the first time since it opened in 1845. Eighty-one female
midshipmen were inducted into the Academy in Annapolis, MD.
The first female to graduate from that class would be
Elizabeth Anne Rowe, in May 1980.
