Another Lancaster
County boy has been sent to the
House of Refuge. Elmer E. McCorkle left for
Philadelphia with Officer Swenk On This Day in 1881 after being remanded to the House of Refuge.
The boy, just 14 years of age, is the son of John McCorkle of
West Willow. The elder McCorkle took his son to the courts and asked for him to be remanded. There was enough evidence to prove the boy to be “very bad” and beyond control.
